Overview

This project contains open hardware design files for a baseboard supporting the NVIDIA Jetson Nano, Xavier NX and TX2 NX SoMs. It was created by Antmicro, a custom hardware, software and AI engineering company and NVIDIA's Jetson ecosystem partner. The board can be interfaced with MIPI CSI-2 video devices through a unified Flexible Flat Cable (FFC) connector, supporting up to 4 sensors in a 2-lane configuration or 3 sensors in a 4-lane configuration. Please refer to the Product Design Guide for the relevant SoM for more details regarding the supported CSI lane mappings. You will find the SoM-related resources in NVIDIA's Jetson Download Center.

The baseboard, its custom variants designed by Antmicro per customer's specification, and essential accessories can be purchased from Capable Robot Components.

The design files for this project starting from Rev. 1.5 are provided and maintained in KiCad. Older revisions of the board were prepared in Altium Designer and are kept on a separate branch.

Project structure:

The main directory contains the KiCad design files, LICENSE and README. The remaining files are stored in the following directories:

  • img - contains graphics for this README
  • doc - contains generated schematics and other documentation
  • linux-patches - contains patches which add camera support for camera modules from Allied Vision (see the BSP section below)

Key features

  • Jetson Nano / Xavier NX / TX2 NX SO-DIMM connector
  • Gigabit Ethernet RJ45 connector
  • Micro USB debug connector
  • USB-C DFP (Host) port
  • Micro HDMI video output interface
  • Mini DisplayPort video output interface
  • 2x 50-pin FFC connectors exposing up to 4 MIPI CSI-2 camera interfaces
  • M.2 (key M) connector exposing PCIe x4 interface
  • RTC battery backup
  • EEPROM for storing board ID/SN

Getting started

The board can be produced and assembled using the provided design files. Please take a look at the mechanical layers for more information regarding the PCB stackup recommended for fabrication. The board can be powered by a voltage in the 6-36VDC range. It is recommended to use a 12V 2A DC supply to power the board. The board has an integrated power sequencer that starts the module automatically right after applying power supply.

BSP

The baseboard's I/O interfaces are supported in the standard Linux for Tegra (L4T) BSPs provided by NVIDIA for Jetson Nano / Xavier NX / TX2 NX. The BSP should work with the Open Source Jetson Baseboard out of the box. However, to use the baseboard with various cameras and other accessories you may need to make modifications. If you plan to use the board with Allied Vision Alvium image sensors, there is a linux-patches directory, which contains patch files that add support for the Allied Vision cameras for this baseboard with the Jetson Nano NX module. The patches are named with the L4T release and can be applied to the corresponding branches of the Linux repository released by Allied Vision. Antmicro's services involve BSP development so you can hire us to make the necessary modifications for you.

You can use the USB OTG interface connector to upload a BSP image to a SoM inserted into the baseboard.

Debug UART connection

Most of the debug messages are provided through the serial console. The board includes an FTDI chip providing the UART interface to the host PC. Please refer to the schematic sheets for more details. The default debug UART channel is accessible through /dev/ttyUSB0 (assuming that there are no other FTDI units connected to your PC). The default baudrate for serial debug connection is 115200 baud with an 8-bit transmission, 1 stop bit and with no flow control.

Revision info

The latest revision of the board (1.5.x) includes the design files converted into KiCad. The BOM has been altered so the board can be produced despite the global chip shortage situation. Revision 1.5.x changes the I2C multiplexer (PCA9548 -> PCA9547) used for handling the cameras and video accessories. You may need to adjust the devicetree entries for video accessories to make them work with the new I2C multiplexer chip.

jetson-nano-baseboard's Issues

Booting board

Any specific reasons of removing SD card socket ?

where you will residing your OS ?

the width of the VIN to TPS54561

The copper of the top layer is 0.035mm,the width of VIN tracks to the TPS54561 is 0.4mm,the power need atlest 5V*4A=20W,so i think the current of VIN is 20W/12V=1.67A,The width seems not enough

the max dissipation of the nx module

hello,in the latest version i found the supply is tps54561,the max current is 5A,assume the nx module work in 15W model and the USB device need 2A current ,it seems the supply can't provide enouth current.By the way ,dit the new version of the board has been verified?

Auto Routing

Hi @mgielda @pgielda @kgugala !

Thank you for this great project. I am modifying this board design to suit my requirements. Hence, I would like to know if you have used Auto-Routing or not. If so, on which settings in Altium. Thank you!

USB C not working at boot

Hi, I have an issue with the USB C from the board. When I boot my Xavier NX card with the board, I am not able to use a keyboard or a mouse. The card seems to boot normaly and I have the hdmi port which is working.
How can I available the USB C to work on boot ?
I am able to debug the board through an ssh connection.
The Xavier NX card works well on the development kit.

Here are the logs with the dmesg command. It seems that the USB C is working at the beginning of the boot (1.837254), then it is closed (11.972174):

Undetected CSI camera

Hi all,

I've been trying to use this board with my IMX219 camera (it works with the Jetson Nano DevKit) to no avail.

My setup is:

Jetson Baseboard from capablerobots
15pin flex cable from capablerobots
IMX219-AF from arducam
Jetson Nano SoM (production module w/emmc)

Am running latest L4T and have installed JetPack via the command line (sudo apt install nvidia-jetpack)

I've got the board setup with the camera connected to Camera FFC 1 (referencing the diagram in the README), but it never gets detected by nvgstcapture-1.0. Here's the output from nvgstcapture-1.0:

<main:4670> iterating capture loop ....
NvMMLiteOpen : Block : BlockType = 4
===== NVMEDIA: NVENC =====
NvMMLiteBlockCreate : Block : BlockType = 4
Error generated. /dvs/git/dirty/git-master_linux/multimedia/nvgstreamer/gst-nvarguscamera/gstnvarguscamerasrc.cpp, execute:645 No cameras available

(nvgstcapture-1.0:6251): GStreamer-CRITICAL **: 13:21:08.592: gst_mini_object_set_qdata: assertion 'object != NULL' failed

So clearly it just can't see the connected camera.

Doesn't the 15pin cable effectively simulate the same 15pin connection that the Nano DevKit has? What would I have to do to make it work?

Here are some relevant boot logs from the serial interface:

Generate Gerber files

Hi hate to ask can someone please generate valid gerber files for me, im having an issue and not sure why, id like to produce this board for a prototype.

Support for Allied Vision Cameras

Hi Antmicro team,

The patches in this repository for Allied Vision cameras only list support up to JetPack 4.4, which was released in October 2020.

Do these patches support the latest release (JetPack 5.0)?

If not, will new patches be provided?

Thanks.

Power sequensing

Hello!

This might not be an issue, but something in your design contradicts Nvidia information.
It would be great if you could clarify it.

  1. The datasheet expressly states that no signals should be applied to any module IO pin until it's completely powered up. To obtain such behavior, the evalkit design enables carrier power supplies (3.3, 1.8) with SYS_RESET, which goes high when module finished power up process. In your design, these power supplies are enabled by POWER_GOOD of the main 5V DC/DC, so they are enabled at the same time as 5V_SYS. You did it like that because it JUST WORKS and you don't see any adverse effect or I'm missing something?
  2. According to the graph on the page 9 of the Jetson Nano Product Design Guide, in case of sudden power loss the main power supply should decay from 5V to 3V no faster than at least 10ms, to allow shutting down the module gracefully after servicing SHUTDOWN_REQ and forcing POWER_EN low. The three 47uF caps on the 5V rail in your design would only last for ~50us before the voltage drops to 3V. So the evident question here is - did you have any troubles with hard power offs? Did you test such cases?

I'd be very grateful for any info on the 2 points above!

Best,
Olex

PCB files

Would you export the pcb schematic and pcb layout files to kicad or gerber file formats?

Any update on Kicad files?

what stage are the Kicad files currently at?

We have a KiCad version of this board converted from Altium files. We hope to share this version soon.

Problem with SSD

Hello, we have a problem with SSD write speed. The Samsung 980 PRO SSD supports writing up to 2700 MB/s, but tests show 333 MB/s. For us, write speed is very critical. Could this be related to the board?

Jetson Xavier NX board boot problem

According to your carrier board design, I built a custom version and prototyped the board. Jetson nano module booted successfully on my own board, but Jetson Xavier NX module didn't. Is Xavier NX not able to boot directly on your design but requires more settings?

Manufacturing of the board / readily availbale boards for sale?

Hi there,

thank you very much for taking all the effort and time to make this incredible and compact carrier board. What would be the best way to get one produced (any recommendations of manufacturers that can easily process the available design files?) or maybe is there somebody arround with a ready made spare board that he wants to sell?

Thank you very much and sorry for poluting the issues section =)

Routing layers copper pours

I noticed the signal/routing layers in the layout do not contain large GND copper pours, is there a reason it was not added to the design? Shouldn't it help with impedance control and shielding?

buck capacitors for the Jetson NX SOM

the Jetson NX Developer Kit has three capacitors(C145/C146/C147 330uF) for the SOM +5V power supply. But this design just placed two 100uF capacitors (C10/C11),by the way the MLCC has 'DC Bias' character,at +5V the capacitor will be reduce.I have my own carrier board has only two buck capacitors(two 100uF),when i run some programs to test the GPU load the board will be closed(because of the +5V supply droped below 4.75V).

The thickness of PCB

Hi there, I wonder where can I find the thickness of the PCB also thickness of each layers if available? Thanks.

Capacitors on the BOM

Some of the caps seem to be undersized for the expected voltages. As an example C1, C2, C3, C4 are shown in the BOM as Murata Electronics P/N: GRM155R60G475ME

That's a 4V part, but C1 along with C2 are connected to HDMI_PWR which has 5V going to it.

Other caps are under the expected voltages, but only barely so. There doesn't seem to be any capacitor de-rating used when creating the BOM.

HDMI pull down resistors

Hello ,the NVIDIA Jetson Nano Product Designe Guide says "499Ω, 1% pull-downs must be disabled when Jetson Nano is off or in sleep mode to meet the HDMI VOFF requirement. The enable to the FET, enables the pull-downs when the HDMI interface is to be used"but this design delete all pull down resistors.does it work well?

Flashing Fails

Hello,

I've tried flashing with SDKM using JetPack 4.6.4 and the process hangs and never finishes, the last line in the console is:

Saved platform info in storage_info.bin

Manually flashing, I'm getting a false-positive success. Using:

sudo ./flash.sh jetson-nano-qspi mmcblk0p1

the process completes with:

*** The target t210ref has been flashed successfully. ***
Reset the board to boot from the internal eMMC.

However, upon reboot the OS is not loading and it's stuck on the NVIDIA logo splash screen.

Any advice or further info on the flash procedure would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,
Dave

I've gone down the Nvidia Forum rabbit hole and it led me here, indicating I need some kinda board configuration file "from the vendor".

Does this file exist anywhere? Or do I need to make it? Has anyone succeeded in flashing JetPack 4.6 on a TX2 NX SoM with this baseboard?

Support for Orin NX?

Hi all. Anyone looked into electrical forward compatibility with the Orin NX?

Support for later versions of Jetpack?

Hi Ant Micro

My company has recently designed and produced a prototype custom carrier board based on your open source jetson baseboard. It has two MIPI CSI-2 ports on it that we are using to connect two Allied Vision 1800-C158C cameras. We are using a TX2 NX module in the carrier board. Unfortunately, Allied Vision's driver software is still in beta for the TX2 NX and only supports Jetpack 4.6.1 (l4t-32.7.1). I'm writing to ask whether support for Jetpack 4.6.1 (or other versions) is available somewhere or in development?
If not, is there a way we can work together to produce one?

Best regards

We have a problem with the HDMI. The board recognise correctly the MONITOR. But I don't have video, any monitor say: NO SIGNAL. But when I connect the HDMI cable the VNC adjust the resolution automatically with the new monitor.

I review all the design and is the HDMI area is exactly your design.

I installed the last l4t version 4.5 and didn't work. I used the previous and when boot appear not good defined the NVIDIA LOGO. Now I downgrade other version and I can see distorted the image with the initial SETUP of UBUNTU.
Some suggestions?

I'm attaching the dmesg:
